Lt. Col. Rakesh Taneja retired from the Indian Army, where he served in the Corps of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering. He took his management experience out of the army and into the world of business.

Rakesh is an experienced senior manager, business owner and management consultant. He specialises in developing and improving manufacturing systems and in business improvement. Rakesh has a record of helping companies in the execution of operations plans, marketing plans and strategic plans.

His client list includes The Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (acting as Senior Consultant) and Millennium Plastics in Hamilton (as ISO 9000 Consultant).

Qualifications

Rakesh is a postgraduate in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. His qualifications also include a Masters in Business Administration.

Previous Positions

As a post army manager, Rakesh has worked as Production Head for the Contract Manufacturing Unit, Dell Computer Mother Boards ($100m turnover and 700 staff); Strategic Business Unit Head, Gabriel India making shock absorbers ($20m and 100 staff); Business Improvement Manager, Timber Finishing Ltd, Tauranga; Business Improvement Manager, Matangi Sawmills Ltd, Tauranga and Quality Assurance Officer, NZ Navy Devonport.

As a business owner Rakesh has been owner/director of a Pay TV business in Auckland and two Indian restaurants in Tauranga.

Achievements

  • An eight-fold increase in productivity in the Dell manufacturing unit in 3 years
  • Turning around the shock absorber plant by restoring the 35% lost business share
  • Represented country in Statistical Process control study in Taiwan arranged by Asia Productivity Council.
  • Selected to be trained at Fernu Avionics, London to facilitate the Transfer of Technology to manufacture wireless equipment in India
